At Graydin, when we refer to the ‘Head’, we mean our mindset, our reality, and our current lens. When you think about particular situations, you may experience a lack of clarity or motivation. Naming the lens you are seeing a situation through can help you to move forward.

 

WHAT’S A LENS?

A lens is a filter that informs how we view aspects of our lives. Like a pair of prescription glasses, lenses determine how you see things and what you can and cannot see. Lenses not only inform your perspective, but also influence your choices and actions. Ultimately, the lens you choose to look through creates your reality.

For any one situation, there are an unlimited number of lenses through which to look. Changing your lens provides new possibilities and options.

Head questions are a type of Effective Question that bring clarity to a particular situation, as well as exploring the situation’s potential options, perspectives and obstacles. Head questions can be used to powerfully alter someone’s lens in order to create clarity and encourage action.

Here are some examples of Head questions:

  • What’s a different perspective?
  • What are your options?
  • What are your current obstacles?
  • What resources are available to you?
  • What’s stopping you?
  • When is the best time to move forward?
  • What would happen if you took a small step, today?
  • What would that look like?

These questions make up the middle stage of our Start With Heart Model. Consider asking them after you have asked several Heart questions. You will reveal obstacles, new ways of looking at a situation and options for how to move forward.
